Where to eat in Dolgellau

Amongst the stunning scenery and rich music culture of Dolgellau lies a feast of fantastic eateries. Last year, I spent a long weekend exploring the market town, as well as enjoying an abundance of hikes nearby. Read on to find out where to dine.

Mawddach Pizza

Our first stop for an evening meal was Mawddach Pizza - Traditional Neapolitan Pizza with an extensive range of toppings, starters, and the most delicious milk chocolate cream with mascarpone & honeycomb for pud. Gluten free and vegan options are available, as well as being dog friendly.

Popty Dref Bakery

We treated ourselves to a hearty breakfast over at Popty Dref - Look at that doorstop bread! Popty Dref has been named among the best bakeries in the world by La Liste, so We would have been fools not to try their world famous honey buns.

Penmaenuchaf Hotel & Gardens

Dining at Penmaenuchaf was on the top of my list when visiting Dolgellau - and it truly did not disappoint. In fact, I feel they could charge more for their lunchtime offering at £38 for three courses and a selection of delicious amuse bouche!

With views out across the gardens, the restaurant is a tranquil setting for a memorable dining experience.

My favourite course: Malt Chocolate with miso, puffed rice, and milk ice cream.

Led by Head Chef Tom Hine, the menu is creative, seasonal and of high quality. Everything we ate was exceptional, but the star of te show for me and my sweet tooth was the Malt Chocolate with miso, puffed rice, and milk ice cream. Let’s go again, please.

T.H Roberts Coffee Shop

Even though Google said it was closed, we’re over the moon that TH Roberts Coffee Shop was open on this Sunday morning. Set within a former ironmongery, the quirky cafe is still complete with original decor dating from 1886.

The selection of homemade cakes and bakes was very tempting, but we were drawn in by the smells and sights of their breakfast rolls - A dish that hit the spot before our last big hike before returning home.

Gwin Dylanwad Wine

Dylanwad is an independent wine importer, shop and bar in Dolgellau, situated just opposite Popty Dref.

We nestled into one of their nooks with a glass of wine - They have at least ten wines by the glass to choose from (all VERY reasonably priced), or choose a bottle from the shop and pay for corkage. Sharing platters to accompany the expertly hand picked wine is also available.
